Rising Star recipient Mikaela Hewitt-Filian recently competed in the 11-12yrs Girls Rugby League State Championships against 12 teams.
The Sunshine Coast team finished 9th overall but came out with two wins, one match where Mikaela scored the only try for the team.
The four-day tournament was topped off with Mikaela being awarded Most Improved Player for the Sunshine Coast team.
Mikaela’s State Championship journey began at the start of 2018 as the only female player at Stanley River Wolves club playing against boys.
She was then selected to play for the Sunshine Coast Regional School Girls 11-12yrs Rugby League Team after making the Glasshouse District Team.
Despite the girl’s Rugby League tournament not going further than state-level this year, the growing women’s sport is sure to go national in the near future.
“Thank you once again for your generous donation. It has been a fantastic experience for all who participated and many friendships have been made”, stated Michelle Hewitt and Mikaela Hewitt-Filian.
Mikaela also made the Glasshouse District Touch and AFL teams this year and made it to District level for Athletics and Swimming.
