Initiative getting women into Touch

Caboolture Touch Association (CTA) has launched a new Women in Touch program, to encourage more women to participate in the sport.

The free program, which is proudly supported by Subaru Australia, Caboolture Sports Club and Keystar Subaru, was a new initiative to get more women back into sport and in particular, touch football, according to CTA Administrator Aimee Best.

“After looking at the current competition format of Tuesday and Thursday nights the club decided to try a different day and time, with Sunday mornings from 9am selected for the trial over the next 10 weeks.”

Caboolture Touch president Herb Kerr, said the committee were very excited about getting women back into Touch and are fully committed to seeing it succeed.

“It is our club’s goal to get more women playing touch football or at the very least, come give it a try,” Mr Kerr said.

“For me it’s about showing women of all ages touch is a fun sport that can be played to your ability and fitness level.

“I also encourage families to support our women who are getting back into sport or trying touch for the first time.

“It’s not much for other members of the family to take the kids for the morning to allow women to come have some fun and get fit. They are welcome to bring the kids down and support mum or their carers from the sideline.”

Women in Touch is a no pressure social morning, where all players are welcome. It’s completely free to play and participants are provided free uniforms and morning tea.

David McGuinness, one of the major driving forces behind the initiative, approached Subaru Australia to support the competition who came on board whole heartedly.

The first Women In Touch day commenced on Sunday 9th September thanks to the fantastic support of local member Mark Ryan MP, Kelvin Patch from Caboolture Sports Club, Dean Ellis from Keystar motors and Nat De Rossi from Sunshine Coast Touch Football.

Ben Mannion, CEO of Queensland Touch, was also thanked by Caboolture Touch for his ongoing support behind the concept.
