Caboolture Sports Club’s Rising Star Recipient Taylah Smith was selected in the Australian team to compete in the International Women's Tent Pegging World Championships in Khasab, Oman from 26th to 28th January 2018.

Taylah_Gold_Medal.jpgTaylah came home with 1 Gold medal and 2 Silver medals and her team placed 2nd overall.

The team representatives were Taylah Smith (Qld), Donna Davidson (Vic), Christine Staats (Vic), Christina Swinton (NSW) and Michelle Gorey (NSW). Also travelling with the team was Coach Barry Biffin and Manager Judy Biffin both from Tamworth NSW.

The countries competing were Australia, South Africa, Oman, Jordan, Sudan and Egypt. 


The horses used in the event were sourced in Oman and neighbouring countries. The riders drew their mounts from a hat and had one afternoon to ride and practice on that horse before the competition commenced. 

The event was held over 3 days along the beach at Khasab and was watched by hundreds of spectators including the Oman Royal family, Prince Malik Ata Muhammad of Pakistan and other dignitaries from the International Tent Pegging Federation. 

Khasab_Oman.jpegDay 1 of the competition was Individual, Pairs and Team Lances. All scores added together to find a winner. South Africa won gold, Australia silver and Egypt bronze. 

Day 2 of the competition was Individual, Pairs and Team Swords with Australia winning gold, South Africa silver and Sudan bronze. 

Day 3 was Indian File with swords, Lemon and Peg and Rings and Peg. In the Lemon and peg competition riders using a sword must slice 2 lemons in half that are hanging up then pick up the peg.  In Rings and peg, a lance is used to collect a small ring hanging and then a peg in the ground. South Africa place 1st with Australia Second.

The final overall results of the Championship had South Africa placing 1st with Australia 2nd and Oman 3rd.
