tom-grieve-main.jpgDespite wild winds and recent shark attacks, local triathlete Tom Grieve was still able to bring home a gold medal in the team relay event at he Australian School Triathlon Championships in Brusselton, Western Australia from April 4-5.

The relay event involes three competitors from each state each doing one leg of a triathlon, although due to the shark problems in the area, the event was turned into a duathlon with a 1.5km run (instead of swim), 16km cycle and 4km run.  Tom performed the cycle leg and aside from coming first, also received the fastest overall time of the day out of 63 teams - both male and female.

The 16-year-old also competed in the Senior Boys Category (Under 20) and finished 8th overall in a high quality field of 26 competitors under extremely windy conditions. Overall, Tom had the fastest bike leg of any Queensland competitor.

Tome has been steadily rising through the triathlon ranks by finishing 4th at this year's Queensland titles 2012 and 8th in this year's Australian titles.
