Touch Rising Star Helps Coast to Victory
Caboolture Soccer Finals Success
Burpengary Duo Star on World Stage
A bit of fun at the track has helped raise more than $20,000 at the 2009 Rotary Charity Race Day presented by Caboolture Sports Club.
Caboolture Sports Club Secretary Manager Kelvin Patch said the club’s involvement as the Major Sponsor helped provide a great day out for members as well as helping fund the local Children’s Hospital project.
“We were very happy to be involved in such a successful day and to raise in excess of $20,000 is a fantastic result”.
“A large amount of the money raised will go toward the Fantasy Garden project which will make a difference for many years to come to the families that spend time at the Caboolture Hospital, while the remainder of the money raised will go to support the charitable projects of the Rotary Clubs of Caboolture, Bribie Island and Maroochydore”.
St Eugene’s College student Joshua Connolly has helped steer the Sunshine Coast under 12 touch side to a State Championship victory at the Queensland School Sport State Touch Championships in Townsville.
Joshua who also plays for Caboolture Touch Association, a foundation club of Caboolture Sports Club, was named player of the match in his team’s victory against Wide Bay on the way to securing a finals berth against Metropolitan West.
The final proved the highlight of the four day championships with Sunshine Coast coming from three tries to nil down to finish tied with three tries each at full time, before going into a drop-off decider with Sunshine Coast crossing for the winning try.
Caboolture Sports Soccer Club has capped off what club officials describe as their most successful season in recent years with 8 teams represented in the grand finals of the Sunshine Coast competition.
After fielding 11 teams in the semi-final, 8 teams went on to play in grand finals, the highest number for any Club in the Sunshine Coast Football competition.
The Snakes finals quest begun as the Men’s Over 35’s competed against Noosa, with coach Danny Di Base leading his chargers to a 2 – nil victory taking the over 35’s trophy for the first time in the club’s history.
Just down the coast at Woombye, Caboolture’s Division 2 Women kept the grand final success going with another 2 – nil grand final victory over Caloundra.
The following day it was the junior’s turn for grand final glory with six of Caboolture’s junior teams competing in grand final matches at Maroochydore.
Four of Caboolture’s junior teams went on to taste grand final success including the Snakes under 12 Division 1 team with a 1 – nil victory against Maroochydore, Under 15 Division 1 and Division 2 teams and the Under 15 girls coached by “Junior Coach of the Year” Nev Male who empathically defeated Kawana 4 – nil.
Swimming sensations Helen Hasseloff & Emily Schmidt have returned with some extra baggage after outstanding performances at the 2009 INAS-FID Global Games at Liberic, Czech Republic in July.
The Burpengary duo both won gold medals in relay events, while also turning out great individual performances in the championships from the 5th to 14th July.
Helen was one of the top performing athletes in the Australian swim team with gold medals in the 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle relays, two individual silver medals in the 50m and 100m Butterfly and bronze medals in the 400m individual medley and 50m backstroke events.
Not to be outdone, Helen’s team mate Emily also recorded personal best times in all her events with two team gold medals in the 4x50m & 4x100m medley relays and an individual bronze in the 100m breaststroke where she broke her personal best time by six seconds.
