Narangba Duo Shines in National Champs

17 year old Laurie Dart and his 14 year old brother Matthew have turned out impressive performances at the National Indoor Cricket Championships in June.

The championships held over five days at the Caboolture Indoor Cricket Centre saw Laurie represent the Queensland under 18 team who remained undefeated throughout the national titles.

As well as helping steer Queensland to victory, Laurie’s outstanding performance helped him gain selection in the Australian under 19 squad which will tour New Zealand in September. This was a fantastic performance from Laurie considering the tournament was also the first time he had been selected to play for Queensland.

Not to be outdone, younger brother Mathew Dart also put in strong performances throughout the tournament for the South East Queensland under 14 team which finished in third place.

2008 Charity Golf Day

More than 140 players are gearing up for Caboolture Sports Club’s 4th Annual Charity Golf Day to benefit the Clubs Smile for a Child Foundation on Friday 8th August.

Event organiser Matt Rafton said this year’s response has been unbelievable. “In a matter of one week from the release of information on the golf day all our sponsorship spaces had been filled”, Mr Rafton said.

“We are very close to being fully booked with 148 players expected to take part in the day to be held at Caboolture Golf Club”.

Leading the support again for 2008 has been Keystar Autoworld who will again be the major sponsors of the event with one of the highlights of the day being the chance to win a new Mitsubishi Lancer for any player good enough to score a hole in one.

Now in its 4th year the Caboolture Sports Club Charity Golf Day has built a reputation as one of the best charity events on the Smile for a Child calendar and Mr Rafton said this year will be no different.

“The whole day is about having fun and raising money for the three children’s charities supported by Clubs Smile for a Child including Camp Quality, the Starlight Foundation and Montrose Access”, Mr Rafton said.

“Last year our golf day raised over $16,000 and with the support already received, we are hopeful to exceed that even further this year”.

In 2007 clubs throughout Queensland raised over $351,000, with Caboolture Sports Club’s overall contribution of more than $18,200 the second largest contribution from any club in the state.

Limited spaces for the day are still available with team sponsorships from $440 for four players. Donations in the form of cash or prizes are also greatly appreciated. For details contact Matt Rafton on (07) 54979711.

Top Juniors Touch Down in Caboolture

More than 2,000 players are set to converge on Caboolture for the state’s biggest
junior touch carnival proudly sponsored by Caboolture Sports Club.

The Caboolture Sports Club Junior State Cup now in its 13th year which will run over three days from the 11th to 13th of July.

Caboolture Touch Association administrator Ross Best said that the huge numbers with 2,000 players, 340 coaches and support staff, 120 referees and numerous family and volunteers would test the resources of the Caboolture Touch Association, but the committee are confident they are up to the challenge with significant planning carried out to cater for the event.

“The carnival will host age divisions in both boys and girls 10 years and under, 12 years and under, 14 years and under, 16 years and under and 18 years and under” Mr Best said.

“Caboolture will nominate teams in all divisions and previous results show that our teams are very competitive and always return good results,  which is a reflection on the club and the coaches”.

Student’s Swing a Big Success

Morayfield State School students are now enjoying their new Junior School Playground thanks to support from Caboolture Sports Club’s Community Chest Fund.

The new Junior School Playground was constructed to replace the old playground which had been located near the front of the school.

With the age of the existing playground, the school’s administration had identified the need to construct a new area for students to enjoy with a double swing, balance beam, sandpit and play system.

With the plans in place funding from the school and P&C could not meet the complete cost of the project, however the Caboolture Sports Club Community Chest Fund provided the much needed funding to construct the new double swing.

Morayfield State School P&C president Ronnie Kotaschuk thanked Caboolture Sports Club for their support in the project.

“The donation of funds towards the installation of our double swing has meant that the concept could be completed in one project”, she said.

Curtis a Star of the Future

14 year old Curtis Ricker is one rising star to keep an eye out for.

The talented youngster from Burpengary already stands at 183cm or six foot in the old scale and could be another great sporting export from the Caboolture area, as he continues to show plenty of promise in both AFL and athletics.

A former Caboolture Lions AFL junior, Curtis made the shift to attend Sandgate State High School’s Excellence in Sport Program, making the commute by train every day from his home in Burpengary.

This shift has paid dividends with Curtis gaining representative selection in both the under 15 Metropolitan North Schoolboys team and the under 16 Northern Raiders team which saw him compete at both club and school State Championships in May.

Curtis’s performance at the Schoolboys Championship impressed selectors, picking up a spot in the Queensland team to head to the national championships in Melbourne from July 19-26.

Curtis’s sporting talents also extend beyond the football field with a trophy cabinet that boasts several medals from March’s State Athletics Titles. Competing in five events, Curtis had podium finishes in all five events with gold in javelin, silver in the 400 meters and shot put, along with bronze medals in both the 800m and discuss.

Earlier in 2008 Curtis had competed amongst open athletes such as Tamsyn Lewis, Bronwyn Thompson and Scott Martin at the Australia Cup Athletics Meet in January. Curtis again produced some fantastic results with a gold medal in 400m and silver in shot put.
